What is CATIE?

CATIE is a comprehensive training program for scholars in the education sciences who are interested in constructing interventions that deliver the right treatment at the right time to support the needs of students or education organizations. A four day, in-person training provides CATIE Fellows a rigorous foundation in the design, funding, conduct, and analysis of novel experimental designs for optimizing adaptive interventions—including SMART designs. Daily workshops are led by a team of d3center scientists who are experts in the design of adaptive intervention studies in education settings. Before and after the in-person training, Fellows receive mentorship and extend their learning through additional, remote events including a virtual data analytics training. The program aims to support Fellows as they develop initial research concepts into strong proposals for submission to a federal sponsor such as IES or NIH.

The in-person training institute will be held on Tuesday, February 11 through Friday, February 14, 2025 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Accepted scholars are expected to attend all sessions on each of these four days.

CATIE 2025 Application Details

Who should apply?

Scholars with a doctoral degree interested in learning more about adaptive interventions in education and the use of SMARTs to build high-quality adaptive interventions—especially those with early intervention or special education research interests—are encouraged to apply. Scholars must be working in early intervention, education, or special education and should be citizens or non-citizen nationals of the United States, or admitted to the United States for permanent residence.

There is no application fee or cost to attend. However, scholars who are accepted must arrange their own travel and cover their own expenses (e.g., transportation, lodging in Ann Arbor).
